Peplum 4-ever??

J.Crew top (here)/Old Navy pants (here)/belt (target)/Nine West shoes (old)/Olivia Gryson purse (old)(love this one)/Kate Spade sunnies (here)

Peplum is still in the game folks...even for 2014 (and beyond??) This is great news for us because besides being very flattering, it's a really easy way to spice up an otherwise boring outfit. Take for example the one I'm wearing - skinny jeans and a plain black cotton top - throw in a small peplum and define it with a skinny leopard belt and suddenly you've got a legit outfit. If you're new to the trend stick to fitted pieces, like skinny jeans or a pencil skirt, on the bottom to balance out the peplum. Give it a try...or many tries because not all peplums are created equal. I've had great success with the ones at J. Crew but there are plenty of others that work too. All the fitting room time will be worth it when you find the right one. I promise.

I've got the blues...and a Justin Timberlake in Memphis weekend getaway giveaway!!

J.Crew maxi (similar)/Gap denim jacket (similar)/Necklace (bauble bar)/Aldo booties (here)/Rebecca Minkoff Cupid (here)/D&G sunnies (old)/Michele watch

American music, including the blues (hence my post title,) has many of its roots in Memphis, Tennessee. You know who else has their roots in Memphis? Justin Timerberlake!  JT keeps close ties to this magical city. He owns a golf course (called Mirimichi), has his own tequilia (901 - the Memphis area code) and is a minority owner of the Memphis Grizzlier NBA team. In addition, this November Mr. Timberlake is stopping by his hometown to perform on his 20/20 Experience World Tour.

Memphis is one of my favorite cities. It is the perfect blend of southern charm, soul and rock n' roll. In addition it's full of funky, historic and world-famous cultural attractions like the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Sun Studio and the National Civil Rights Museum.

A vibrant music scene is one of the many draws of Memphis. Talented musicians (including the uber talented singer/songwriter cousin of yours truly (Phoebe Elliot) flock to this city for the experience and opportunity. You can hear their talent live at many of the cool venus such as the Levitt Shell, Hi-Tone or even your local dive bar. And speaking of dive bars, Memphis was named by Travel + Leisure as one of the best cities for barbecue (duh) as well as burgers, pizza and dive bars.

So let's recap: the best music, the best food, some fabulous dive bars and a Justin Timberlake concert to boot - I want to go!

Lucky for us, Alive magazine has teamed up with I Love Memphis to give you AND me each a chance to win an amazing trip to Memphis for JT's upcoming concert and more:

One lucky winner will receive the following prize package:

-A two day stay at the famous Peabody Hotel (Nov 17-18)
-Two tickets to the Justin Timberlake show on Monday, Nov. 18 at FedEx Forum

St. Louis has Style.

Who knew? St. Louis Fashion Week is currently going on and I have been lucky enough to be a part of the action along with my other St. Louis Fashion blogger comrades. I haven't been able to attend all the events (due to my parenting/wife responsibilities) but those that I have attended have been incredible.

This past Thursday I attended "Indulge at Plaza Frontenac," a runway show featuring looks from Plaza Frontenac's top stores. In addition 100% of the proceeds went to SSM Cardinal Glennon hospital. The stores that participated included Eileen Fisher, Juicy Couture, Ann Taylor, BCBG, Pace Farias, Lucky, Lululemon, and White house Black Market. I had front row seats which made for an amazing view of the styles (but tough to get great picture images - don't judge.)

Some of the styles that made repeat appearances included: leather (skirts, pants, or embellishments), black and white pairings, coated skinny jeans, moto (both boots and jackets) and loose fitting tops. Also there were a lot of tall shoes...really tall shoes. I give major props to the models for not falling.

Here are a few of the looks from the show:

probably my favorite of the night. Mental note: stop by BCBG next time I'm at the mall

Looks here include Juicy Couture and Pace Farias
A huge thanks to Alive Magazine for putting on such an amazing St. Louis Fashion Week! Click (here) to buy tickets to the upcoming events.
