Forget Tiffany's....I'll take breakfast at Saks

Tildon Skirt (at Nordstrom Rack now)/Gap blouse (old)/Denim Jacket (similar)/Aldo Booties (here)/D&G Sunglasses (old)/Michele Watch (similar)
thanks to Rachael for taking my pictures

As an addition to St. Louis Fashion Week, Saks invited a group of local bloggers to their store to have breakfast and have our makeup done. Ummm yeah!

We arrived and were given a tour of the makeup department and provided with some really neat facts about the store which I don't remember any of because, well, I was too focused on trying to keep the drool in my mouth. Their makeup department is ah-mazing!...and their make up artists are pretty amazing too. We each were paired up with a make up artist to be made up and walked away feeling beautiful! I recommend making a trip to the makeup department at Saks to have your makeup done and for some eye candy - Chanel's set up is a piece of art.  And right now it's beauty week at Saks and are are offering a gift with purchase which include a fabulous tote bag filled with really great samples.

In addition, Saks is gearing up for the upcoming local exhibit at the World Chess Hall of Fame titled    "A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes, Fashion and Chess." This exhibit is being set up to explore the archetypes of a queen, including, you guessed it, Queen Alexander McQueen. Yowza!

To appropriately outfit viewers of this exhibit in town, Saks set up a special room, for a limited time, to carry and sell fabulous designer handbags and shoes by Celine, Nicholas Kirkwood and, of course, Alexander McQueen to name a few. A few of us bloggers were lucky enough to walk through this gem. Behold...

oh hello...

Thank you so much to Saks for inviting me to take part in this event. You sure know how to make a girl feel special!

there's that dress again...

judith marc dress (old)/sweatshirt (so soft!!) (old navy)/denim jacket (similar)/Booties (Aldo)/Rebecca Minkoff 5 Zip mini crossbody (nordstrom)/Necklace (bauble bar)
I bought this dress a few winters ago in Pittsburgh when it was on clearance at a little boutique because, well, it's kind of a summer dress. With that being said, I have yet to wear it during the summer but it's definitely getting a workout this fall. It's the perfect layering dress for cooler temps. It has just the right colors (navy, green, orange and yellow) to match my fall sweaters and jackets and the jackets help tone down the super girly feel of the dress. Takeaway? Before you get rid of "seasonal" dress, try wearing it a little differently for another season.

(faux) leather and lace...

BB Dakota Jacket (Paperdolls boutique)/lace top (old)(similar)/COH avedon jeans (similar)/Aldo booties (here)/tribal necklace (Paperdolls boutique)/Small(er) necklace (bauble bar)/Olivia Harris (by Joy Gryson) purse (old)

I've been on the lookout for a great leather jacket for a few months now so when I spotted this faux one at one of my favorite local boutiques at a (beyond) reasonable price I snatched it up as fast as I could. I love the color block detail and that even though it's faux leather it doesn't look or feel cheap.

As I was thumbing though my closet looking for the right top to pair with my new leather jacket I suddenly became aware that I was humming "Leather and Lace" by Stevie Nicks. You know the one....

Coincidence? I think not. I grabbed the only lace top I have in my closet and voila! Leather and lace... (although I'm pretty sure this is NOT what Stevie Nicks had in mind when she wrote the song.)

the magician...

Skirt (Nordstrom Rack)(Similar)/Tank (Gap)/Isola Shoes (Nordstrom)(Similar)/Crystal Necklace (Bauble bar)/Spike Necklace(Nordstrom)/Rebecca Minkoff 5 Zip Mini Crossbody (Nordstrom)
This past Thursday was the kick off party for St. Louis Fashion Week which only means one thing, the pressure to be fashionable. Just kidding. It means a lot of great things but for me the outfit to this event seemed important. I was on the lookout for a faux leather fluted skirt for the past month or so because after browsing some of my favorite fashion blogs suddenly that's what I HAD to have. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find it.  until Wednesday afternoon. the day before the event. at Nordstrom Rack.  in a size two sizes too big and the only one in the city.

In comes the magician part.  Elizabet is onsite tailor for Nordstrom Rack and could not be more talented (or nice.) I told her my story and she told me she could do the tailoring and have the skirt to me by the next afternoon in time for the event. By noon the next day, she had magically transformed the skirt to fit me perfectly! Actually I know it was not magic at all. Elizabet is uber talented and I know she worked really hard to make the skirt perfect for me and I will be reminded of her work and talent every time I don that skirt (which I imagine will be a lot this year.) Thank you Elizabet!

The evening was so much fun and the perfect way to kick off my first St. Louis Fashion Week. I'm looking forward to the rest!
